When is the best time to visit Bali? A Month by Month Guide

Bali, often referred to as the “Island of the Gods,” is a dream destination for travellers worldwide. With its stunning beaches, lush jungles and vibrant culture, it’s a year-round paradise. But the experience of Bali can vary greatly depending on when you visit, thanks to its tropical climate and popularity.

Here’s a month-by-month guide to help you plan your perfect Balinese getaway:

January and February:

Weather: These are Bali’s wettest months, with heavy rainfall and high humidity. Expect afternoon showers, which can be heavy but are often short-lived. Temperatures hover around 26–30°C

Crowds: There are fewer tourists compared to the peak season, making it a quieter time to explore the island.

Best For: Traveller’s who don’t mind a bit of rain and want to avoid the crowds!

March:

Weather: The rainy season starts to taper off, though occasional afternoon showers are still common. Temperatures remain warm, around 27–31°C.

Crowds: Expect crowds to be slightly busier than January and February, especially around Nyepi, which is the Balinese Day of Silence.

Best for: Experiencing Balinese culture during Nyepi and seeing the lush greenery after all the rain.

April:

Weather: The start of the dry season! Rainfall decreases, and sunny days become more frequent. Temperatures average 27–30°C.

Crowds: Crowd’s start to increase as travellers start to return after the rainy season, but it’s not as busy as peak season yet.

Best for: Outdoor activities like hiking and visiting beaches, with pleasant weather and manageable crowds.

May and June:

Weather: May and June experiences some of Bali’s best weather. Expect clear skies, warm temperatures, and little rain. Temperatures range from 26–30°C.

Crowds: Crowds stay similar to April – busier than the rainy season, but still pre peak season.

Best for: Surfing, diving, and exploring Bali’s cultural attractions without the overwhelming crowds.

July and August:

Weather: July and August are peak dry season, with sunny days and humidity is at its lowest. Temperatures stay around 25–29°C.

Crowds: These are Bali’s busiest months! Expect full beaches and bustling markets.

Best for: Festivals like the Bali Arts Festival and perfect beach days.

September:

Weather: September in Bali is similar to July and August (sunny and low humidity) but with slightly warmer days. The dry season continues with little rain and temperatures around 26–30°C.

Crowds: September is quieter than the peak summer months, as schools reopen in many countries.

Best for: A mix of great weather and fewer tourists, ideal for a relaxing getaway.

October:

Weather: The daily weather starts to transition back from the dry season to rainy. Expect sunny mornings, with increasing chance of afternoon rain. Temperatures stay hot, hovering around 27–31°C.

Crowds: Moderate, as fewer tourists visit during this transitional period. This also means you can usually find cheaper flights!

Best for: A more tranquil experience with opportunities for outdoor activities and beach visits early in the day.

November and December:

Weather: The rainy season begins in earnest, with frequent downpours and high humidity. Temperatures remain warm at 26–30°C.

Crowds: Tourism picks up again in late December due to the Christmas and New Year holidays but is generally quieter during November.

Best for: Those seeking festive vibes during the holidays or affordable travel deals in early November.
