10 Packing Essentials for Your Next Backpacking Adventure

Travelling is wonderful but the packing part of travelling is…  not quite so wonderful. Knowing what to bring and what to leave behind is always tricky, and has a horrible habit of leaving you  heading to the airport wondering if you’ve left something really important behind…

To help you out, we’ve put together our ultimate guide to packing essentials you need for your next backpacking adventure!

1. Eye Mask and Ear Plugs

A good night’s sleep is essential while backpacking. Whether you’re on an overnight bus, staying in a noisy hostel, or camping under the stars, an eye mask and ear plugs will help you block out distractions and catch up on some quality rest.

2. Small Padlock

A padlock can be a lifesaver when storing your belongings in hostel lockers or securing your backpack’s zippers. Top tip: opt for a combination lock if you are always loosing your keys!

3.  Universal Travel Adapter

If your trip spans multiple countries, a universal travel adapter is essential. Look for one with multiple USB ports so you can charge several devices at once.

4.  Power Bank

A portable power bank ensures your phone, camera, Kindle or other electrics can stay charged, especially during long travel days. Make sure you pick up one with at least10,000m Ah for reliable power on the go.

5. Backpack rain cover

If you’re travelling with a backpack, the last thing you need is to be caught out in the rain and find all your clothing soaked through. Protect your belongings from downpours with a small backpack rain cover.

6. Refillable Water Bottle

Many hotels and hostels will provide some free drinking water, so being able to utilise this with a reusable water bottle can save plastic waste and money! You can even go one step further and opt for one with a built-in filter so you can drink the tap water.

7. Lightweight towel

Make sure you’ve got a lightweight towel with you that you can easily chuck in your day back for spontaneous swims or beach days!

8. Neck-pillow

If your trip includes a lot of long journeys or overnight buses, we we’d highly recommend bringing a travel pillow with you! You can easily clip this to your backpack when you aren’t travelling.

9.  Mini first aid kit

Travelling can lead to little accidents, so it’s always a good idea to have a mini first aid kit with general medical bits and plasters to hand!

10. Packing Cubes

These are a packing essential! They help keep your clothing super organised (which is especially useful when you are frequently packing up and moving between hostels) and help make sure you can fit in as much as possible!
